SEO vs GEO vs AEO
SEO aims to rank a page in a list of links, AEO aims to be the extracted direct answer, and GEO aims to be cited inside an AI-generated response. They share one technical and editorial foundation, so they are best run as a single program.

Different targets, one foundation
All three depend on crawlable, fast, accurate pages written by people who know the subject. What changes is the target surface, and therefore how you format and measure.
- SEO: goal is a ranking position on Google or Bing, measured in rankings and clicks
- AEO: goal is the extracted answer in AI Overviews, snippets and voice, measured in answer presence
- GEO: goal is a citation inside ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini, measured in share of AI answers
Why splitting them is a mistake
The same schema fix improves all three. The same page restructure improves all three. Hiring one agency for SEO and another for AI visibility duplicates the audit, splits the roadmap and leaves nobody accountable for the result.
How to run them as one program
Keep one backlog. Fix technical health first, then entity clarity, then question coverage. Report rankings, snippet presence and AI citations on one screen so a single decision can be made about what to do next.
